   From 1846-1848 E.M.B. was working for E. & J. Brown in New York City together w. James Sydney Brown, a portrait painter; see: http://www.baxleystamps.com/litho/brown.shtml In 1851, Brown worked with Charles Severyn, a lithographer, and then Currier and Ives starting in 1852. In 1852/53 E.M.B. accompanied commander Perry on an expedition to Japan as daguerreotypist and artist where he reportedly took more than 400 photographs.
